The Transfusion Outcomes Research Collaborative is a partnership between the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and Monash University’s Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine.
The Collaborative is a key component of the Blood Service's commitment to clinical research. The aim of the partnership is to explore blood component usage and patient outcomes following transfusion in Australia, and so enhance the quality of transfusion practice and help improve patient care.
The partnership’s research focuses on four major areas regarding transfusion practice and outcomes:
The partnership is monitored by an independent Steering Committee, chaired by Dr Merrole Cole-Sinclair with members including stakeholders and clinical and epidemiological experts.
A high priority for the partnership is the effective dissemination of the information gathered to enable translation of research findings into improved clinical practice.
